Embracing Compassionate Inquiry: A Non-Pathologizing Approach to the Enneagram

Goal for Changing Names:

  • Reduced Pathologizing: By choosing names that focus on positive attributes or essential qualities rather than flaws, the new names help foster self-acceptance. This reframing encourages individuals to see their personality traits as part of their identity rather than a pathology that needs to be fixed.

  • Inclusivity and Non-Binary Nature: The revised names promote a more inclusive perspective, acknowledging the fluidity of personality traits and their manifestations without reinforcing binary judgments. This can resonate with people of varying identities and experiences, making the framework more accessible.

  • Empowerment: The new names suggest empowerment and personal agency, encouraging individuals to embrace their unique qualities while acknowledging the complexities of their personality traits.

The Enneagram is a powerful tool for understanding personality types and their underlying motivations. However, I believe that the language we use to describe these types can significantly impact how individuals perceive themselves and relate to others. My goal in changing the names of the Enneagram types is to foster self-acceptance and encourage a compassionate inquiry into our personalities, allowing us to embrace our unique qualities while promoting empathy and understanding.
